The
Jump'n Jukes is
a group of four seasoned musicians that specialize in playing the best
in Classic Blues and West Coast Guitar Swing. The band members have an
extensive background in a variety of local, regional,
national and international
music scenes:
Steve Sams - Vocals
& blues harp
Juha Saily - Guitar
Mark McCoy - Bass
Pete Bennie - Drums

Steve Sams, Vocals
& blues harp
--
An Atlanta native, Steve became a blues fan during the British Blues
renaissance in the late 60s. For many years he followed the local
blues scene but never seriously considered playing an instrument.
Finally, Steve came upon a blues festival with a pro-workshop on
harmonica, which changed it all. From there - seemingly overnight -
Steve's harp playing has become a local sensation (he promises his
momma that he didn't make a deal with the devil!). Fans and fellow
musicians alike say "Wow!" after seeing and hearing Steve wail away
on his harp. Steve really throws himself into the music, which shows
in both his harp playing and strong vocal style.

Juha Saily, Guitar
--
Originally from Raahe, Finland, Juha began studying classical
piano and music theory in the 70s, and picked up guitar a few
years later. He played in rock & blues bands throughout his high
school and college years. When demands of work and family stepped in
he dropped out of the music scene for a mere 16 years! He returned
to music fall 2002 and he has since been active in Atlanta blues
circles. As
far as we know, Juha is the only Finnish-born blues musician
permanently working and residing in
North America.
He plays hollow body guitars with his distinctive fingerpicking style that adds a delicious flavor of jazz to
the band's music.
To hone his chops
on fretless bass Juha joined
Burning Time,
an Atlanta-based blues/rock trio formed in late 2007.

Mark McCoy, Bass

Mark McCoy
has been a working blues musician for over 25 years. He grew up in
a family full of musicians and began taking drums lessons at the age
of 9. He switched to bass at age 12 and played rock & roll
throughout his school years. He found his way to the
Blues in 1980 when he formed The Back Door Blues Band with his
brother Tommy and harp player “Saint” James Judy. In 1989 he
began working with The Houseshakers. A gig that lasted over 8
years. The Houseshakers were nominated twice for Best Blues Band in
Florida. Since moving
to
Georgia in
1997, Mark has worked with veteran blues singer Patrick Vining along
with local blues greats Forrest McDonald and Andrew Black. Mark
has continued to record and tour with his brother, Tommy McCoy, a
fine blues guitarist and singer and completed his first European
tour during the summer of 2006.
Mark has had
the pleasure of sharing the stage and studio with many fine artists.
Recently he performed with James and Lucky Peterson's band. He’s
recorded two CDs with Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Levon Helm and
Garth Hudson (The Band) and recorded a New Age Jazz album with
singer Kim Bracken. Among the others that he has shared the stage
with include Ronny "Bird" Foster, singer and drummer for the late

Pete Bennie, Drums
--
Pete originally hails from Cleveland, Ohio. He began playing drums
and digging into all types of music at 12 years old. Formal teaching
in drum set and snare rudiments laid a good foundation for playing
Blues and Roots music. Bennie traveled the United States with the
military for over 20 years and had unique opportunities to experience
and play regional music on the West coast, Texas, the Midwest, the
Northeast and even the Great Plains.
Pete has come full circle with the JUKES, as the original drummer,
when he met Steve Sams and Juha Saily in the Atlanta Blues community.
Pete has lived in Atlanta for 7 years and most recently was the
drummer for the powerhouse Jump Blues/ Rockabilly band - Atomic
Boogie. Bennie has chops for Western Swing, Jazz, Rock, Country,
Rockabilly, and of course the BLUES. He has been onstage with many
notable musicians over the years and lays down a potent rhythmic
undertow for the JUMP’N JUKES.
